Parents' Day in Korea
May is a family month in Korea. There is
children`s day on May 5th and parent`s day on May 8th. Just
like mother`s day in united states, we appreciate parent`s efforts building up
their children. It has been an official holiday since 1973 but Parents’ day is
not a national holiday. Normally hand over greeting and gifts to their parents
with red carnation.
Traditionally filial piety (called hyo or
hyodo) was one of the highest forms of character in Korean society. Korean tends
to regard respect and devoted service to parents based on their traditional
lifestyle. But more people are moving to the cities and rising nuclear families
Korean government may have to set parents day as an official holiday to keep their
ethics intact.
